Lonely Houses
By Bethan John - Decorator's Notebook 1 Comment
Just a quick post to show you a beautiful Instagram account I recently discovered. Sejkko captures quiet, thought-provoking images of homes standing alone in the landscape… the Lonely Houses. I have such admiration for those who can stick with a photographic project like this, editing and curating their feed with such dedication. Take a look, I think you’ll love it too: @Sejkko.
What are your favourite curated Instagram feeds? Let me know in the comments as I’d love to take a look. Also, remember you can follow me @DecoratorsNotes if you’d like to see what goes on behind the scenes here. Have a lovely weekend x

Meet the Maker: Just Trade Jewellery
+-*I have always loved how a well-chosen piece of jewellery can transform a plain outfit into something special, so when I discovered a brilliant fair trade company called Just Trade making beautiful ethical jewellery, I knew they were perfect for Decorator’s Notebook. This week, we launched our first fair trade jewellery collection and I caught…
On The Road: The Good Life Experience
+-*Before I started my own business, I thought I worked really hard. I lived in London, I commuted by tube each day, wrote articles, arranged photo shoots, ate lunch at my desk most days and occasionally met friends for drinks after work before starting the daily grind all over again. But largely, my weekends were…
Decorating Dilemma: a pop of pink
+-*I’m not really the girly sort when it comes to decorating my home. You’re more likely to find me surrounded by grey and natural tones with rustic textures than pretty pastels. So imagine my surprise at my new-found love of pink! It all started with this throw… {Heavenly Honeycomb throw by House of Rym, £58.95…

The Good List: Quazi Design
+-*A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of sharing coffee with Doron Shaltiel, the creative force behind innovative African jewellery brand, Quazi Design. You may not guess to look at these beautiful pieces, but each and every one is made from recycled paper in Swaziland. Not only is it eco-friendly, it’s fair trade too….

Weekend Recipe: pickled nasturtium seeds (poor man’s capers)
+-*It’s a strange thing perhaps, but I take a completely different approach to styling in my home and garden. Indoors, I’m all about cool greys, natural materials and sophisticated bohemian touches. In my garden however, I love the beds to be filled with a riot of colour… big, blowsy blooms jostling for space in the billowing…

Design Can Change The World: Home Service Crockery
+-*So far in the Design Can Change The World series I’ve written about innovative creations that make life better for people in developing countries, like A Litre of Light that helps illuminate slum housing, The Information Blanket tackling infant mortality and Repurpose Schoolbags helping kids in Africa make more of their education. Today though, I…

Beautiful bags that build better lives
+-*Something I love most about having a shop is discovering all the amazing indigenous craft techniques around the world. I look at the gorgeous things we sell and just think ‘wow, there’s no way I could make that’. It really brings home to me how important it is for Decorator’s Notebook to be a showcase…

The Good List: FairMail Cards
+-*I’m sure we’ve all done it. Travelled to a country poorer than our own and taken photos of local people in a bid to capture the ‘real’ spirit of the place. But did you ever think to hand your camera over to your subject? Give them the opportunity to show their country through their own eyes?…
