No two kantha quilts are ever the same, so if this is the one that calls to you don’t miss your chance! This stunning medium quilt was made by a very special woman at Basha, a fair trade social enterprise helping victims of sex trafficking rebuild their lives. This vintage kantha quilt is made from reclaimed saris, which have a supple softness only time can create. Six layers of cotton make this quilt warm without being too heavy, with close rows of hand-stitching giving a lightly quilted feel. The word 'kantha' means 'patched cloth'. As with all vintage textiles, signs of age which may include careful repairs, loose threads, small marks or inconsistencies in the block-printed designs, should be enjoyed as part of the unique character of this quilt. Presented in a reusable cotton bag.

“My life has changed so much. I've forgotten all my past and I am proud that I am doing a respectable job. My daughter will have a good education and she won’t have to go through what I have been through” – Jahanara, quilter Basha is a social enterprise that helps victims of sex trafficking in Bangladesh leave the streets and build a new life making kantha quilts from recycled saris. Training and counselling are provided and children attend the on-site nursery school while their mothers work. As beautiful products emerge from discarded cloth, broken lives are made whole, stitch by stitch. |
